Shortlisted for the Independent School of the Year Award for Performance Arts and Music
The Music Faculty caters for academic music teaching in addition to providing instrumental and vocal lessons for around 375 students.
We excel in Co-Curricular music: students of all abilities and interests are catered for with organised activities running every break, lunchtime and sometimes after school.
These include a symphony orchestra, string orchestra, choirs, dance band, jazz band and various chamber groups for string, wind, percussion and brass players. We encourage and promote student-led groups, and there is a thriving after-school band scene at RGS.
Concerts
Our concert schedule is extensive and varied both in School and in the wider community – these showcase both our very best students and give less experienced players the opportunity to take part in more relaxed events. RGS ensembles are in demand at many events around the county.
"“RGS has always been massively supportive of the band. In our infancy back at school letting us spend every minute of break time in the music department, to when we first started the band and the school very kindly let us use their facilities when we couldn’t afford a proper practice room.”" Rahul Gupta, Alumni
