6 Simple Changes to Enhance Your Website's News Section
Your school or district's website's "news" section has never been more important. In a socially-distanced and virtual world, your community is craving familiar connections, feel-good content and up-to-date information. So, if you haven't taken a look at the user experience of your news section, now is a great time to do so!
First things first: What makes a good news section?
- Clean design: Website visitors seeking news want it fast, so your news section should not be muddied down. A clean, mobile-first design ensures visitors can find whatever they need from whatever device they have.
- Up-to-date information: You should aim to update your school or district's website section at least once per week — however more often is better.
- Filterable content: The best website experiences are those driven by the user's wants and needs. The content within your news section should be easy to filter by type of story. (Think athletics, distance learning, feature stories, etc.)
Performance Programme
Performance Programme
Our Faculty of Sport has a very wide and diverse range of activities on offer and whilst we cater for all abilities, some of our students perform at the very highest levels in their chosen areas.
The School is able to assist and support these athletes through our Sports Performance Programme, even when their sport is not one in which the School currently participates. The scheme currently has 24 athletes across 13 different sports and is designed to support and nurture the abilities of these talented student athletes, helping them achieve both their sporting dreams and academic goals.
This is a bespoke service depending upon the sport and age of the student but can include:
- Physiological and fitness assessment
- Injury diagnosis and treatment
- Nutrition advice and support
- Sports massage
- Personal strength and conditioning programme
- Weekly conditioning coaching
- Ongoing medical advice and treatment
- Training and support
Application
To apply, students should complete and return the Sports Performance Programme application form. This can be downloaded from the Parent Portal or requested from our Sports Administrators on 01234 332655 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
The Fitness Centre
The Fitness Centre
The RGS Fitness Centre is a one room facility which opened in September 2014. The Fitness Centre includes Life Fitness Cardio Vascular equipment, Watt bikes and a functional training rig. The equipment was chosen to energize the School’s physical education curriculum and creates a dynamic training hub for small groups to train with their own body weight and learn correct lifting techniques.
There is also a dedicated strength area with an Olympic lifting platform; a facility for students to correctly learn the foundation strength lifts and Olympic lifts. This is utilized by our senior teams, especially when their sport requires a high level of physical robustness and resilience.
The Fitness Centre was created with the purpose of allowing a more structured foundation movement programme to complement the sports offered at RGS and to encourage our students to maintain lifelong fitness moving forward with their lives after they leave School.
The Fitness Centre is open to students from class 5 upwards during before assembly, games period and after School. All sessions are supervised by the School’s Conditioning Coach.
Our Strength and Conditioning Coach leads the programme within PHE and Games to provide education with regards to general health, physical literacy and fitness. He also works with the School’s Sports teams during squad sessions to develop the physical skills and strength required to perform at a high level of sport whilst remaining injury free.
